Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) President Bai Chunli met with a delegation headed by Carlos Moedas, EU Commissioner for Research, Science and Innovation, in Beijing on the morning of September 7.
The two sides discussed the latest developments in science and technology cooperation.
The CAS always encourages its scientists and researchers to take an active part in EU’s research and science cooperation programs with China, said Bai.
Earlier this year, the CAS launched the CAS-EU Partner Program to match Horizon 2020 – the EU's new research and innovation program, Bai said, adding that Moedas’ visit will further enhance cooperation between China and the EU.
Moedas said that he sees bright prospects for China-EU cooperation and the EU attaches great importance to cooperation with China in fields from basic research to commercialization. Cooperation will make both sides stronger, according to Moedas.
In the afternoon, Moedas attended the Joint Conference in Promoting Excellence through Enhanced EU-China Researchers’ Mobility and Cooperation at CAS, accompanied by Jean Pierre Bourguignon, president of the European Research Council.
The conference was co-sponsored by the Delegation of the European Union to China, the Chinese Ministry of Science and Technology, CAS and the National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC). Vice-Minister of Science and Technology Cao Jianlin, NSFC Vice-President Liu Congqiang and CAS Deputy Secretary-General Tan Tieniu delivered speeches.
