CAS Deputy Secretary-General Tan Tieniu met with a delegation led by Research Councils UK (RCUK) International Champion and Chief Executive of Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC) Jane Elliot in Beijing on September 9.

Tan briefed the guests on the CAS and its Pioneer Initiative, as well as the academy’s strategic international development.

Reviewing the latest developments in CAS-RCUK collaboration, Tan said there is huge potential for cooperation between the two sides. He proposed that the two sides further science and technology collaboration through mechanisms for long-term cooperation, promoting personnel exchanges and constructing joint centers.

Elliott said that although the UK-China Joint Research and Innovation Partnership Fund is only valid for five years, the two sides should set their sights on the longer term, step up future planning and promote bilateral exchanges for mutual benefits.
