The Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) and the Shanghai government held a meeting on May 20, 2015 to discuss plans to build the Global Science and Technology Innovation Center in Shanghai.
CAS President Bai Chunli and Shanghai Mayor Yang Xiong attended the meeting and voiced hopes for cooperation.
The Shanghai government hopes that the CAS can provide support in certain areas, including pushing ahead with construction of a comprehensive national science center and prioritizing support in pilot reforms of Shanghai research institutes, as well as backing local government’s efforts to build world-class research institutions, undertake major national research programs, and set up a platform that facilitates international innovation.

Yang said the proposals from CAS are important to the construction of the Global Science and Technology Innovation Center.
Bai said both the CAS Pioneer Initiative, which outlines the academy’s blueprint up to 2020, and Shanghai’s innovation and reform plans share common goals of driving national technological innovation.
