CHINESE ACADEMY OF SCIENCES

According to the cooperation agreement between the National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC) and the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS), the two sides will jointly fund cooperation exchange and bilateral seminar programs to be conducted by Chinese and Japanese researchers.

I. Program Description

(1) Program types

There are three types of programs, namely Joint Research Projects, Joint Seminars held in China, and Joint Seminars held abroad.

(2) Funding areas

Funding areas include Mathematics and Physics/Earth Science, Material and Engineering, Chemistry/Information Science/Management Sciences, and Life Sciences/Medical Sciences.

(3) Funding amount

The funding amount from the Chinese side shall not exceed 200,000 yuan per project.

(4) Number of funding projects

Twenty-four projects in total, including 20 Joint Research Projects, and four Joint Seminars in China and abroad.

(5) Content of funding

The sending side will cover international travel expenses while the receiving side will cover domestic travel expenses and daily allowances. Costs associated with holding seminars will be covered by the host country.

(6) Project duration

Joint Research Projects are expected to have a duration of two years and nine months, starting on April 1, 2025 and ending on December 31, 2027.

Joint Seminars held in China and abroad are expected to have a duration of up to one week, during the period between April 1, 2025 and March 31, 2026.

II. Eligibility

According to the Measures for Fund Management of NSFC-Funded International (regional) Cooperation and Exchange Programs, applications for this program must meet the following requirements:

(1) Japanese applicants should meet the eligibility requirements of JSPS for domestic applicants. Please refer to the program guide in Japanese: https://www.jsps.go.jp/j-bilat/semina/shinsei_bosyu.html, or the program guide in English: https://www.jsps.go.jp/english/e-bilat/call.html.

(2) Applications submitted by one side only will not be accepted. Both PIs should, therefore, make sure that their counterpart submits a matching application.

III. Approval Result Notification

Funding results will be posted on the NSFC’s online information platform at grants.nsfc.gov.cn/pmpweb/login.
