The Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) President’s International Fellowship Initiative, PIFI, is a funding program designed to establish scientific cooperation and promote research communication around the globe. It is open to all scientific research personnel worldwide.

Aiming at promoting global research mobility, the PIFI is officially launched this June with five main categories, covering scholars at different career stages, from Nobel laureates to young master’s students.

Through the CAS-PIFI, you can:

The PIFI Distinguished Scientist category is open to well-established and internationally recognized scientists (scholars) who have achieved outstanding achievements in the field of science and technology. It provides funding for them to conduct academic exchange activities in at least two CAS-affiliated institutions (research institutes or universities) for 1-2 weeks. We offer ￥ 40,000 (pre-tax) per week.

The PIFI Visiting Scientist category is open to excellent foreign experts (scholars) who work in foreign institutions (including postdoctoral fellows) and provides funding for them to conduct academic visits and cooperative research at CAS for 1-6 months.

For professors or those with equivalent qualifications, we offer ￥ 40,000 (pre-tax) per month. For associate professors or those with equivalent qualifications, we offer ￥ 30,000 (pre-tax) per month. For assistant professors (including postdoctoral fellows) or those with equivalent qualifications, we offer ￥ 20,000 (pre-tax) per month.

The PIFI Young Leader category is open to excellent doctoral and master’s students as well as postdoctoral fellows from top universities and research institutions around the globe and provides funding for them to participate in training and exchanges at CAS for no less than one week and to visit at least two CAS-affiliated institutions (research institutes or universities). We offer ￥ 400,000 per project, and no less than 20 visits will be funded for each project

The PIFI Ambassador category is open to PIFI fellows who have previously received PIFI funding and have achieved significant results. It provides funding for them to visit CAS again and to coordinate and participate in related activities at the academy level. The PIFI Ambassador will also focus on PIFI project promotion and networking at universities and research institutions at home and abroad. We offer ￥ 50,000 (pre-tax) per project.

The PIFI Group category is open to leaders and members (including students) of world-class scientific research, technological and management teams with high reputations. It provides funding for them to conduct highly autonomous exchanges, visits and collaborative research with CAS’s research teams for three years. We offer ￥ 1,000,000 per year.
