Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) on March 31 announced the launch of a special campaign to promote technological transfer and commercialization of research findings, which will target major national and local demands.
A 500-million-yuan ($77.3 million) special fund will be set up for the purpose, along with an intellectual property operation and management center to oversee the academy’s subordinate units in this area.
CAS will give full play to the role of the market, explore new business models, expand market channels and set up a supportive policy system to facilitate technological transfer and commercialization of research achievements.
In addition, CAS and relevant research institutes and universities from Australia and New Zealand jointly held an intellectual property seminar in Beijing on April 14.
Some 50 representatives – from CAS, Australia’s Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organization, the University of New South Wales, New Zealand’s University of Auckland and the New Zealand Embassy in Beijing – attended the meeting and discussed setting up a long-term cooperation mechanism in intellectual property management. The attendees also reached consensus on joint efforts in applying for patents, cultivating talents, carrying out cooperation with enterprises and enhancing exchanges in intellectual property operation and management.
