CAS President Bai Chunli and Shanghai Mayor Yang Xiong signed a cooperation agreement on July 28 to jointly build a science and technology center in Shanghai.

The partnership marked another major move in CAS and Shanghai government’s innovation-driven development strategy, as the CAS is carrying out its Pioneer Initiative and Shanghai is accelerating construction of its global innovation center. It is the third cooperation agreement that has been reached between the two sides since 2001.

The two sides have vowed to seek common development at higher levels and in broader areas. Cooperation will focus on building a comprehensive science center at Zhangjiang Hi-Tech Park in Shanghai’s Pudong district, undertaking major scientific and technological programs, and building up talent pools.

The past 15 years saw fruitful cooperation between CAS and Shanghai in various areas, especially in building large scientific facilities, universities and R&D platforms, bolstering strategic emerging industries, and undertaking scientific and technological projects.
