More than 90 experts and scholars from over 20 Chinese and Thai organizations attended a symposium jointly held by the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) and the Thai Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation (MHESI) in Chiang Mai from January 8 to 10.

The bilateral symposium aims to promote exchanges and cooperation between China and Thailand in the fields of astronomy and space science, as well as scientific research and the innovative growth of both sides.

The two sides focused their discussions on three major topics — science, technology, and application, and reached multiple cooperation intentions at the event.

Dr. Junpen (1st, L) from the MHESI, Wei Zhixiang (C), Deputy Head of CAS’s Bureau of Frontier Sciences and Education, and Dr. Saran, Executive Director of the National Astronomical Research Institute of Thailand, exchange gifts at the event.

They planned to cooperate in a number of fields, such as time-domain astronomy, neutrino exploration, high-energy cosmic ray exploration, VLBI data analysis, optical telescope terminal development, scientific payloads for lunar exploration, space weather monitoring and forecasting.

The symposium not only consolidated the existing foundation of cooperation between China and Thailand, but also provided a platform for communication and cooperation between their scientific research institutions and universities.

It helped establish a new partnership, laying a solid foundation for the long-term development of science and technology cooperation between the two countries.
