Sino-American Glaciologists Completed the Investigation to the Southeast of Tibet

After 30 days field expedition, Sino-American joint glaciological investigation concluded on Oct. 22. During this expedition, scientists have extracted a firn core of around 20m from the summit of the Zuoqiupu Glacier, Yalong glacierized area in the Southeast Tibet, and collected over 140 snow/firn samples in several snowpits on the glacier. Future field investigations in this region and further comprehensive analysis will focus on the climatic and environmental changes.
The Sino-American Joint Glaciological Investigation on the Yalong Glacierized region in Basu County, southeast Tibet was initiated and organized by the Cold and Arid Regions Environmental and Engineering Research Institute (CAREERI), CAS and the University of Idaho, USA. Led by Dr. Shiyin LIU, from CAREERI. -4
